I just wanted to express my concern about what is going on with the approval of another 222 housing units next to the Chiquita Canyon Landfill. The county stated in its approval that the landfill was operating in compliance. How can this be a true statement with over 2,000 odor complaints and over 70 violations as of this week?
I understand from The Signal news articles that the odor problem is worse because of an uncontrolled reaction in the landfill. Any new housing approvals should be delayed at least until this reaction is stopped for the health and safety of future residents. I cannot respect an agency that would allow people to be put into such a situation.
