News release
Gloria Mercado-Fortine, a former teacher, principal, superintendent, and past governing board member, and past Santa Clarita Valley Woman of The Year, announced her candidacy for the William S. Hart Union High School District board of trustees in Area 1.
“As a proud Hart High School graduate and longtime advocate for education, Gloria aims to refocus the district on student success, parental involvement, fiscal accountability and school safety,” said a news release from the candidate’s campaign.
“Throughout her career, Gloria has been committed to improving educational outcomes, leading two successful bond measures, and overseeing the construction of six new schools within the Hart district,” the release said. “She has been a steadfast advocate for teachers, parents and students, working to ensure transparency and collaboration in district decisions.”
“I want to ensure our schools remain top-tier institutions that prioritize students’ well-being and learning, while giving parents a stronger voice,” Mercado said in the release.
Her platform includes restoring fiscal health to the district and focusing on local issues rather than national politics, the release said.
Mercado-Fortine is endorsed by the Hart District Teachers Association. She has served on boards for several organizations including the Santa Clarita Valley Boys and Girls Club, Samuel Dixon Family Heath Center, and the SCV Sheriffs Foundation.
