Local student named to Abilene Christian University’s dean’s honor roll
Tyler Metro, of Santa Clarita, was named to the Abilene Christian University spring 2024 dean’s honor roll. Metro is a junior majoring in nursing.
Metro was among more than 1,500 students named to the spring 2024 dean’s honor roll.
To qualify for the dean’s honor roll, students must be registered for 12 or more credit hours and earn a GPA of 3.6 or higher.
Abilene Christian University, founded in 1906, offers online and residential undergraduate and graduate programs. Students choose from 87 baccalaureate majors that include more than 171 areas of study, as well as 71 areas of study in master’s degree and specialist programs and four doctoral programs. ACU’s mission is to educate students for Christian service and leadership throughout the world.
Sasha Preston of Canyon Country awarded degree from UA
Sasha Preston, of Canyon Country, has received a bachelor of science degree from the University of Alabama during its spring commencement ceremonies.
The University of Alabama, part of The University of Alabama System, is the state’s flagship university. UA provides nearly 200 degree programs through more than 30 research centers.
Grace Gilroy named to deans’ list at Nebraska
Grace Catherine Gilroy, of Santa Clarita, has been named to the deans’ list at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for the spring semester of the 2023-24 academic year.
Gilroy, a sophomore majoring in dance and English, was named to the dean’s list for the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts.
More than 6,600 students at Nebraska were named to the deans’ list for the spring semester.
Qualification for the Deans’ List varies among the eight undergraduate colleges and the Explore Center. For the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts, a grade-point average of 3.7 or better is required.
Jonathan Horowitz named to Baldwin Wallace University dean’s list
Jonathan Horowitz, of Valencia, a graduate of SCVi majoring in theatre stage management and religion, has been named to the dean’s list for the spring 2024 semester at Baldwin Wallace University, according to Provost Thomas C. Sutton.
The dean’s list recognizes students who earn a grade point average of 3.8 or higher while enrolled in 12 or more graded hours during the semester.
Baldwin Wallace University, founded in 1845, was one of the first colleges to admit students without regard to race or gender. An independent, coeducational university of 3,500 students, BW offers coursework in the liberal arts tradition in more than 80 academic areas. The university is located in Berea, 12 miles from downtown Cleveland.
Jason Mcmurdy named to Champlain College dean’s list.
Jason Mcmurdy, of Newhall, was named to the Champlain College dean’s list for the spring 2024 semester.
Students on the dean’s list have achieved a grade point average of 3.5 or higher during the semester. Mcmurdy is majoring in cybersecurity.
Founded in 1878, Champlain College is a small, not-for-profit, private college in Burlington, Vermont, with additional campuses in Montreal, Canada, and Dublin, Ireland. Champlain offers a traditional undergraduate experience from its campus overlooking Lake Champlain and more than 90 residential undergraduate and online undergraduate and graduate degree programs and certificates.
3 local students graduate from Georgia Tech
The Georgia Institute of Technology presented degrees to more than 5,700 undergraduate and graduate students during the Institute’s 266th Commencement exercises in May, and three Santa Clarita Valley students were among the graduates.
Earning degrees were:
• Andrew Hild, of Santa Clarita.
• Lucas Juttner, of Saugus.
• Jion Kim, of Valencia.
The Georgia Institute of Technology, or Georgia Tech, offers business, computing, design, engineering, liberal arts, and sciences degrees. Its more than 47,000 undergraduate and graduate students represent 54 U.S. states and territories and more than 143 countries. They study at the main campus in Atlanta, at campuses in France and China, or through distance and online learning.
Local residents named to RIT dean’s list
The following students were named to the dean’s list at Rochester Institute of Technology for the spring semester of the 2023-2024 academic year:
• Nathan Branda, of Valencia, who is in the cybersecurity program.
• Ashton Michelstein, of Valencia, who is in the software engineering program.
Full-time degree-seeking undergraduate students are eligible for dean’s list if their term GPA is greater than or equal to 3.400; they do not have any grades of “Incomplete,” “D” or “F”; and they have registered for, and completed, at least 12 credit hours.
Rochester Institute of Technology, founded in 1829, enrolls more than 20,500 students in 200 career-oriented and professional programs, making it among the largest private universities in the U.S.
Julie Mennuti graduates from the University of Mississippi
Julie Mennuti, of Stevenson Ranch, is among the more than 3,100 students who earned their degrees from the University of Mississippi in May 2024.
Mennuti, who majored in criminal justice, received a bachelor of science in criminal justice from the School of Applied Sciences.
May 2024 graduates were invited to walk across the stage at the University of Mississippi’s 171st Commencement exercises, which were held by individual colleges and schools May 8-12.
The University of Mississippi, affectionately known as Ole Miss, is the state’s flagship university. Its 16 academic divisions include a major medical school, nationally recognized schools of accountancy, law and pharmacy, and an honors college.
