A 32-year-old Fresno man was arrested on suspicion of carrying a concealed firearm in a vehicle and being a felon in possession of a firearm on Interstate 5 southbound south of Templin Highway on Tuesday afternoon, according to officials with the California Highway Patrol Newhall-area Office.
An officer conducted an enforcement stop on the black Range Rover after the suspect was traveling at high rates of speed, according to an email statement from Officer Carlos Burgos-Lopez with the CHP.
The officer contacted the driver and, while conducting an investigation, the officer discovered that the man was an unlicensed driver and there was a firearm in the vehicle, the statement said.
The officer also discovered the suspect had a prior felony conviction and was a restricted person, Burgos-Lopez’s statement said.
He was arrested on suspicion of a felony for carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle and being a felon in possession of a firearm, the statement said.
He was booked into the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, according to the statement.
