A 20-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of vehicle theft and forgery after another man reported his car was stolen from an unconfirmed Santa Clarita location on Wednesday, according to officials with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

Later that day, deputies were notified that a man was at a bank on the 16500 block of Soledad Canyon Road in Canyon Country, attempting to cash a fraudulent check in the amount of $7,500 from the victim’s account, according to an email statement by Shirley Miller, a spokeswoman for the station.

The suspect had allegedly driven the stolen Mercedes sedan to the bank and used a checkbook in the car to write himself a check, Miller’s statement said.

Deputies responded and arrested the man on suspicion of felony vehicle theft and forgery charges, the statement said.

He was additionally arrested on suspicion of a misdemeanor warrant, Miller’s statement said.

He is being held in lieu of $55,000 bail, the statement said.
