I would like to preface this letter to the editor by informing everyone on the importance of the windmills for electrical energy and clean air.
First of all, windmills do not cause cancer. Windmills are devices that convert kinetic energy from wind into mechanical energy and electricity.
According to the U.S. Department of Energy: Wind power creates good-paying jobs. Wind power is a domestic resource that enables economic growth. Wind is a renewable source of energy. Wind power benefits local communities. Wind power is cost-effective. Wind turbines work in different settings.
President Donald Trump is waging war on windmills and clean energy by not supporting solar and wind power.
Trump is undoing President Joe Biden’s historic climate law and punishing Americans with deadlier air, more (exposure to) lethal heat waves and higher electric bills.
The solar and wind power bill that Trump advocates will eliminate tax credits. In addition this bill will halt “new development” and jeopardize 100 of the projects already in the works.
Per Bloomberg, Trump’s agenda has ordered work to stop on the Rhode Island offshore wind farm that is 80% complete. This Rhode Island windmill project, if completed, could supply 350,000 homes in Rhode Island and Connecticut.
The United States will be moving backward instead of forward due to the elimination of these windmills.
An average windmill can supply electricity to 460 homes, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. According to the USGS, a more powerful windmill can supply enough energy in 90 minutes to a home.
A 750 kilowatt turbine has enough power to supply 200 homes per month, according to the USGS.
Some say windmills will disrupt the environment, but the damages are minimal compared to the benefits provided by clean electricity.
Trump’s agenda on windmills will directly lead to utility hikes.
In closing, windpower, if nothing else, is advantageous to a better environment, which is most important to a person’s well being.
