3 local students named to dean’s list at University of Maryland Global Campus 

Nearly 18,000 University of Maryland Global Campus students were named to the dean’s list for the spring 2025 term. To be eligible for the honor, a student must complete at least six credits during the term, earn a grade point average of at least 3.5 for the term, and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.5 at UMGC. 

The following local students were recognized: 

• Erica Bates, Castaic. 

• David Keller, Valencia. 

• Chad Mitchell, Valencia. 

University of Maryland Global Campus was founded more than 75 years ago specifically to serve the higher education needs of working adults and military service members. Today, UMGC is the largest provider of postsecondary education in Maryland and continues its global tradition with online and hybrid courses, more than 175 classroom and service locations worldwide, and more than 135 degrees and certificates. 

Local student graduates from Loras College  

Loras College, in Dubuque, Iowa, announced that Trevor Segraves was among the students who earned a bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in 2025. 

Horowitz graduates summa cum laude from Baldwin Wallace University 

Jonathan Horowitz, of Valencia, a graduate of SCVi Charter School in Castaic, graduated summa cum laude from Baldwin Wallace University in Berea, Ohio, with a bachelor of arts in theater stage management and religion. 

Baldwin Wallace University’s 175th Commencement was held on Saturday, May 10, at the Lou Higgins Recreation Center’s Ursprung Gymnasium in Berea, Ohio, 12 miles from downtown Cleveland. Some 665 graduates earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees. 

Baldwin Wallace University, founded in 1845, was one of the first colleges to admit students without regard to race or gender. An independent, coeducational university of 3,200 students, BW offers coursework in the liberal arts tradition in more than 65 academic areas. 

Latkovich graduates from Whitman College 

Santa Clarita native Gabriel Latkovich participated in commencement proceedings at Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington, on Sunday, May 25. A graduate of Valencia High School, Latkovich received a bachelor’s degree in economics from Whitman. 

Zbojniewicz named to University of Arkansas dean’s list 

Darius Zbojniewicz, of Valencia, was named to the University of Arkansas dean’s list for the 2025 spring semester. 

To qualify for the Dean’s List, undergraduates must achieve a grade-point average of 3.75 (or higher) during the semester while completing at least 12 credit hours.   

As Arkansas’ flagship institution, the U of A provides more than 200 academic programs. Founded in 1871, the U of A contributes more than $3 billion to Arkansas’ economy annually.
