Local artist Daryl Bibicoff created an original piece of art of an Old Town Newhall scene to commemorate the area after the recent tragic fire that destroyed several historic buildings.
Bibicoff, wanting to help support the businesses that lost everything, decided to use his talents for a good cause: He is having his art printed on T-shirts and has chosen to sell them to donate 100% of the proceeds to the fire victims.
“Newhall is a place of resilience and community. Old Town Newhall is a place where past, present, and future can come together. As an artist and arts advocate, I believe I can preserve the character of Old Town Newhall while inspiring hope, connection, and renewed community as we look forward towards its future,” Bibicoff said in a news release.
The Old Town Newhall scene reflects the location before the fire with a black contour line drawing and gold heart above representing love and hope. The clock in the foreground is a signature landmark of the area and is located in front of what was the Newhall Refinery restaurant.
Bibicoff has partnered with fellow artist Qiana Tarlow, of Peridot Gifts, an artisan collective, to sell the shirts.
“I recently started Peridot Gifts as a way to support local artists, artisans, and makers, and I’m working to open a brick and mortar in Old Town Newhall,” Tarlow said in the release. “As we all are, I am devastated by the fire in Newhall and the loss the businesses and artists have endured, as well as the loss of the historic buildings. When Daryl approached me with his idea, I was immediately on board to help.”
One hundred percent of the proceeds of the T-shirt sales will be donated to Hart & Main’s Love on Main Street Fundraiser benefiting the fire victims, the release said.
