Detectives with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station’s gang unit are investigating a report of a shooting that happened after a crash Wednesday on Walnut Street, according to sheriff’s officials.

No arrests have been made yet, but the incident was described as an active investigation by deputies.

“There was a traffic collision over on Walnut, where the victim and other passengers were driving, and then there was another car that kind of swerved and made impact with their car,” Shirley Miller, spokeswoman for the SCV Sheriff’s Station, said Friday.

“The airbags went off in the victim’s car, and split seconds after the airbags went off, they heard what sounded like a gunshot,” she said. “The vehicle that was hit reported that they saw two men running from the scene of the crash.”

A witness indicated that there was an argument in the area prior to the shot being fired, but station officials did not have any additional details. There were no injuries reported to officials.

SCV Sheriff’s Station deputies responded to the report of possible gunfire in the area, and a station official confirmed that a shell casing was recovered at the scene of the crash near 15th Street.

Station officials later learned the men who fled from the scene were in a vehicle that had been reported stolen.
