Seven Santa Clarita Valley teams participated in the first round of the California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section playoffs, and four advanced.
Here’s a look at the first-round matchups:
Castaic 3, San Gabriel Academy 2
For the first time in the program’s history, the Castaic girls’ volleyball team is a playoff winner.
Ever since Castaic High School was established in 2019, Coyotes athletics has seen success with many of its programs other than girls’ volleyball. But in 2025, coach Taylor Schubert led Castaic to its first playoff appearance with an at-large bid and win.
The Coyotes swept San Gabriel Academy on Wednesday night at home in straight sets, 25-16, 25-18, 25-19, and advanced to the second round of the Division 7 playoffs.
Claudia Martinez led the team in assists with 22. Mia Conner led in kills with 12 across all three sets.
The Coyotes play again at home on Saturday against the Tustin Tillers with the game set to begin at 6 p.m.
Valencia 3, St. Bonaventure 1
Valencia girls’ volleyball followed the trend of their Foothill League counterparts and won at home and advanced to the second round of the Division 5 playoffs.
The Vikings defeated St. Bonaventure in four sets, 25-18, 25-18, 21-25, 25-22, on Wednesday night at Valencia High School.
With the win, the Vikings host the Royal Highlanders at home for the second round of the playoffs on Saturday with the game set to begin at 6 p.m.
Gahr 3, Canyon 0
Canyon girls’ volleyball team is the only team from the Foothill League to not advance to the second round following a loss on the road to the Gahr Gladiators.
The Gladiators swept Canyon in straight sets, 27-25, 27-25, 25-16, and eliminated the Cowboys from postseason contention.
With the loss, the Cowboys finished the season with an overall record of 13-24, and their second consecutive postseason appearance.
Norwalk 3, Trinity 1
The Knights hosted the Norwalk Lancers for the first round of the Division 6 playoffs but lost in four sets at home.
With the loss, the Knights finished the season with an 18-9 overall record and eliminated from postseason play.
Elsinore 3, SCCS 1
The Santa Clarita Christian School Cardinals fell on the road on Wednesday night as they were defeated in four sets by the Elsinore Tigers.
SCCS was participating in the Division 7 playoffs, but the loss ends the season for the Cardinals as they finish the year with a 19-11 overall record.
