After securing his 100th win over Santa Clarita Christian on Dec. 12, head coach Daniel Hebert led the Trinity Knights to a bounceback 75-49 win over the Hueneme Vikings on Tuesday after losing to Faith Baptist the day before.

“After the loss, we were grateful we got another chance to come back soon and win,” Hebert said in response to the team’s mentality following the week’s earlier loss. “It was a tough league game, and we are grateful to get back out here and win.”

Hebert, who’s been the head coach of the Knights (7-5, 2-2) since 2020, spoke after the game on crossing the century mark in wins and added he’s been blessed with players who just love to win.

“I’m grateful that some of the old guys I coached are coming around, and were here for that one and even tonight,” he said. “But it feels good. I mean, I’m grateful to be able to coach Trinity and all the guys I’ve been able to coach. And I do love winning.”

After the win over the Vikings, Hebert now has 101 wins as the head coach.

One of the players who contributed heavily to the victory, freshman guard James Yumbar,  recorded a double-double.

Yumbar led the Knights in scoring with 25 points and 14 rebounds and was an impact player for Trinity throughout the game.

In the second quarter, the Knights outscored the Vikings, 23-11, with Yumbar highlighting the offensive takeover with a transition three.

Hebert spoke on the freshman’s performance and added that Yumbar’s been dealing with an injury for the past few weeks and has finally been shaping into the player he wants him to be.

“He’s recovering from an injury and starting to look like more like himself,” he said. “And before he got hurt, he was averaging 27 points a game. And he’s only a freshman, so he’s learning a lot. But it’s hard to tell sometimes that he’s learning because he plays so well and scores the ball so well, and I think he’s also figuring out how to use the guys around him.”

Senior guard Noah Phillips was second in scoring with 21 points and tallied seven rebounds along with five assists.

Patrick Cherry also joined Yumbar in the double-double category as he scored 10 points and rebounds in the win with a majority of his points coming from the inside the paint.

With the victory, the Knights have won five of their last six. They end the first half of the season and play again on Dec. 29 on the road against the Valley Torah Wolfpack of Valley Village.
