L.A. County’s Department of Arts and Culture is accepting applications from organizations to join a resource pool able to help support an upcoming county-led internship program.

The arts internship, which will last for eight weeks during the summer months and support a cohort of 10 rising public high school seniors, is scheduled to launch in June.

The deadline to submit a statement of qualifications is 5 p.m. Jan. 14.

Organizations approved by the county will be added to a “prequalified list” of entities “capable of providing comprehensive support and service” for the internship, according to L.A. County Arts and Culture’s website.

That support could include providing a dedicated space for student activities, mentorship, organizing trips to arts and cultural events within the county, or creating a workshop curriculum for college and career pathways in the arts, according to the county’s request for statement of qualifications.

Organizations will then be solicited “under competitive conditions” for those services under a work order, which will be issued by the Arts and Culture Department, according to the RFSQ.

The RFSQ, which includes information on the minimum requirements to make the prequalified list, what kind of services will take priority and how to put together a statement of qualifications, can be found at tinyurl.com/msj3vhyu.

The internship is the result of a motion passed nine years ago at an L.A. County Board of Supervisors meeting calling for greater access to work-based learning opportunities for teenagers, according to the RFSQ. The Arts and Culture Department conducted a follow-up report in 2019 to inform the development of new youth-focused arts programs.
