The Newhall School District’s governing board unanimously voted to recognize the month of January as School Board Member month in a resolution during Tuesday’s meeting at the district office.
To join thousands of other local educational agencies across the state that recognize the contributions of board members and their efforts, the Newhall district brought forward a resolution that would recognize January as School Board Member month as a way to say thank you for their commitment to creating an education system that meets the needs of the children in the community.
Newhall District Superintendent Leticia Hernandez read the resolution in full during the public meeting.
“Newhall School District governing board members continue to advocate to best serve the children in our community every day, whereas Newhall School District governing board members are committed to children and believe that all children can be successful learners and that the best education is tailored to the individual need of the child … board members work closely with parents, educational professionals and other community members to create the healthiest environments possible, where all students can thrive,” Hernandez read from the proclamation.
Governing board member and clerk Suzan T. Solomon said it was an honor to be an elected school board member serving the community after Hernandez read the proclamation.
“I know that I have been fortunate, myself, to work with a diverse group of board members over the many years that I have served here with superintendents. I can honestly say that every group of administrators and school board members that have sat here have always worked with the goal, the mindset of what is in the best interest of the student,” Solomon said.
Solomon also said that to meet the needs of the children, it’s essential to prioritize the needs of the teachers, and other staff who work closely with the students, and recognized the work from the governing board is a team effort.
The Newhall district “is a profound team that has visions and dreams to grow in structural programs, to grow opportunities for our students, to support all of our staff to be successful in their positions in whatever they do,” Solomon added. “With that I say thank you to the community, the voters and our staff for your support for the work we do.”
