A lot has changed since Feb. 7, 1919. One thing has not … The Signal is always there.
I would like to thank all the past owners, publishers, editors, employees and subscribers who have made this paper great. Through fires, floods, blizzard, earthquakes, heat waves, shootouts, train derailments, the birth of a city and a worldwide pandemic, The Signal has chronicled it all, and has helped to connect our community.
From a weekly paper with a circulation of less than 250 more than a century ago to a daily paper with a Sunday circulation of 45,000, The Signal has grown with the community and has always maintained a community-oriented flavor, with news coverage that focuses on the issues, events, people and places that matter, and make Santa Clarita great.
As the world changes, we are changing with it, by starting a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week streaming television station to help keep the community informed and connected not only in print and our website, but also on your phone, television, computer, iPad or radio by going to Buzzscv.com or by downloading The Buzz app.
On page A5 of today’s print edition, we have reprinted the story of The Signal from one of the stories in our 100th anniversary book, published in 2019. You can download a pdf of that four-page piece by clicking here.
We are proud to be your local newspaper and we are proud be the No. 1 news source in the Santa Clarita Valley. We thank you for your trust in us and we promise to continue covering the news of the Santa Clarita Valley with heart, passion and a strong sense of community.
As former owner Scott Newhall once said, “A fine community must support its newspaper. And a fine newspaper must support its community.”
We look forward to serving you for the next 107 years.
