The Santa Clarita Valley Food Pantry announced that it has resumed full operations and has returned to regular serving hours.
“The board apologizes for any lack of communication and announcements on our platforms during this period,” said a release from the pantry, referring to a sudden shutdown that occurred Jan. 26 amid a dispute between the nonprofit’s board and its executive director.
Joanne Ainsworth submitted a complaint to the California Attorney General alleging fraud and misappropriation of funds by board members. She was subsequently placed on leave by the board, and the pantry closed Jan. 26 when employees hung a sign on its exterior saying they were on strike due to board malfeasance.
The pantry first reopened two days later.
In the news release issued this week, the organization said it has resumed normal operations and hired Peter Warda as interim executive director and Uzoamaka Aniezue as interim volunteer and outreach director.
“The organization continues to face challenges gaining access to accounts and necessary systems,” the release said. “Despite these obstacles, the Santa Clarita Valley Food Pantry is grateful to once again serve our community with the dedication and compassion that has defined our mission for over 40 years.”
In the release, the pantry also announced a new diaper distribution program as part of a partnership with the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank.
The SCV Food Pantry is located at 24133 Railroad Ave., Newhall, and its website is www.scvfoodpantry.org.
