The California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section released the playoff brackets for girls’ basketball on Saturday, featuring six teams from the Santa Clarita Valley.
All six teams will play on Thursday for the first round of the playoffs, with winners advancing to the second round, set to be held on Saturday.
Here’s a look at Thursday’s matchups:
Valencia vs. Chino
After securing their first outright Foothill League title since the 2020-21 season, the Lady Vikings will play in the Division 1 bracket.
The Lady Vikings are set to play a home game in the team’s first-round matchup as they face off against the visiting Chino Cowboys.
The Cowboys, who finished the regular season with a 20-5 overall record, won the Mt. Baldy League title with a perfect 10-0 record.
The Lady Vikings hold the edge over the Cowboys as Valencia ended the regular season ranked as the 17th team in the Southern Section, according to the final computer rankings provided by High School on SI that determined where teams were seeded in the playoffs.
As for Chino, the Cowboys finished the season as the 50th ranked team in the section.
The game between the Lady Vikings and Cowboys is scheduled to tip off at 7 p.m. at Valencia High School.
Saugus vs. Claremont
The Lady Centurions, who ended the year 20-8 overall, were placed into Division 2 and will host the Claremont Wolfpack.
The Wolfpack ended the regular season 16-10 overall and second in the Palomares League. The team ended the year 68th in the rankings.
As for Saugus, the Lady Centurions hold the edge over the Wolfpack with the first-round home game as they finished 53rd in the rankings.
The game between the Lady Centurions and Wolfpack is set to tip off at 7 p.m. at Saugus High School.
Trinity Classical Academy at Rosary Academy
The Knights will hit the road for the first-round of the Division 2 playoffs as the team takes on the 46th–ranked Rosary Academy Royals of Fullerton.
The Royals ended the regular season with a 19-9 overall record and 5-3 in the Pacific Coast League.
The Knights ended the year ranked 75th in the section and will be a tough matchup for the Royals after a Heritage League championship-winning season for Trinity.
The game between the Knights and Royals is set to tip off at 7 p.m. at Rosary Academy in Fullerton.
Canyon at Vista Murrieta
The Cowboys, who finished third in the Foothill League standings with an 8-4 record, are on the road for the first game of the Division 3 playoffs.
The team is scheduled to take on the Vista Murrieta Broncos, who ended the regular season with a 14-14 record.
The Broncos ended the year as the 91st ranked team in the section while Canyon finished four spots behind as the 94th team.
The game between the Cowboys and Broncos is set to tip off at 7 p.m. at Vista Murrieta High School in Murrieta.
Hart vs. San Jacinto
On the final day of the regular season, the Lady Hawks secured their postseason bid with a win over the West Ranch Wildcats and will host their first-round matchup in the Division 6 playoffs.
The Lady Hawks ended the regular season with a 12-16 overall record, 6-6 in Foothill League play and hold the edge over the visiting San Jacinto Valley Academy Wolves.
The Wolves, who ended the season 16-7 overall, finished as the 223rd ranked team in the section while the Lady Hawks ended the year as the 194th ranked team.
The game between the Lady Hawks and Wolves is set to tip off at 5:30 p.m. at Hart High School.
Santa Clarita Christian vs. Webb
The Cardinals, who finished the regular season fourth in the Heritage League standings with a 9-6 record, are set to host their first-round matchup in the Division 9 playoffs.
The team is set to host the Webb Gauls of Claremont, who finished fourth in the Academy League with a 2-4 record.
The game between the Cardinals and Gauls is set to tip off 7 p.m. at the Newhall Church of the Nazarene.
