The William S. Hart Union High School District is set to decrease the number of classified employees, review the Local Control and Accountability Plan mid-year report, and recognize an individual with the One Hart Award during Wednesday’s governing board meeting.
The district is forced to eliminate about 14 classified positions, which are to be bus assistants, according to an attachment on the agenda item, which says the layoff is a result of lack of work, funds, and/or expiration of specially funded programs.
The LCAP midyear review will provide insight on how students across the district are doing in subjects such as math, English and science, according to a presentation attachment on the agenda item.
The review will also provide insight on the district’s graduation rate, career technical education pathway completion, advanced placement course enrollment, and AP exam pass rate. Chronic absenteeism, suspension and expulsion rate information will also be provided during the presentation.
According to the agenda, a One Hart Award will also be distributed to a community member who exemplifies one of the Hart district core values, which are community, caring, creativity, or courage.
The Valencia High School cheer team will also have a moment of recognition during the meeting for its success in winning both the CIF-SS Division 4AA Cheer Team Championship and the CIF State Non-Tumbling Championship.
Other items on the agenda include a school site report on Rio Norte Junior High School to be given by school Principal Brenda Bennett, and highlights for two focus areas of the district’s strategic plan.
The board is scheduled to meet for a closed session at 6 p.m. followed by open session 7 p.m. Wednesday at the district office, 21380 Centre Pointe Parkway, Santa Clarita.
