A Canyon Country man is due in court Friday to answer to three charges alleging he committed sexual abuse against a child over 14 years of age.
Victor Alvarez, 31, was initially charged with four counts involving two victims, but after his preliminary hearing, a fourth count against a second female minor was waived after the L.A. County District Attorney’s Office indicated it would be unable to proceed.
Deputy District Attorney Yasmin Fardghassemi introduced several pages of telephonic records and testimony from both alleged victims on the stand during Alvarez’s Jan. 23 preliminary hearing.
The charges were investigated by the county Sheriff’s Department’s Special Victims Unit.
After his arrest, Alvarez refused to submit to an examination by investigators or provide buccal swabs, leading to a request by the prosecution on July 14, which Judge Robert Sanchez DuFour granted.
No affirmative defense was offered, and Alvarez was held to answer on the three other charges: forcible oral copulation with a minor; assault with intent to commit a felony; and sexual penetration by use of force.
Alvarez also was charged with special allegations: that the victim was especially vulnerable; that he took advantage of a position of trust; and that he used planning and sophistication to carry out his crimes.
Alvarez remains in custody in Men’s Central Jail in Downtown Los Angeles while he awaits his hearing.
His hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. at the San Fernando Courthouse.
