A motorcycle driver sustained moderate to major injuries in a collision on Wednesday afternoon on the southbound side of Interstate 5 in Castaic, according to a California Highway Patrol Newhall-area Office spokesman.
Reports of a motorcycle down were received at approximately 1:15 p.m. and it may have involved a Ford F-250 truck towing a boat on the I-5 near Hasley Canyon Road, said CHP Officer Carlos Burgos-Lopez. A CHP patrol vehicle was nearby and responded promptly to the crash site.
According to preliminary information on the incident, the driver of the motorcycle was conscious and breathing and was moved to the No. 1 lane while law enforcement officials and first responders arrived at the scene, Burgos-Lopez added.
The driver of the motorcycle was transported to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital with moderate to major injuries, Burgos-Lopez said.
The circumstances that led to the crash are unknown, and under active investigation by CHP officials as of the publication of this story. Driving under the influence is not a suspected factor in the crash.
Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel were also dispatched to render aid and one person was transported to the hospital, according to Saadullah Sheikh a spokesman for the agency.
A SigAlert was not issued but traffic congestion was expected while officials cleared the scene.
