Motorists passing the Crossroads Community Church in the Valencia Industrial Center this weekend will notice the church’s annual Memorial Day tribute: Thousands of U.S. flags have been planted in the lawns surrounding the church.
Todd Smith, senior pastor at Crossroads Community Church, said about 35 volunteers helped the church place the Memorial Day flags on Wednesday morning – marking the second year they have done it. They placed about 10,000 flags in under two hours.
“We want to do it because ultimately, it resembles the gospel, as Jesus laid down his life for us, these men and women have laid down their lives for our freedom. And as the scripture says, ‘There’s no greater love than one has that is willing to lay down his life for a friend,’” said Smith. “And anytime we can promote that, we want to because that’s the central message of the gospel.”
