Boys’ volleyball roundup: Valencia advances, Canyon, Trinity eliminated

Vikings lone SCV team remaining in boys’ volleyball playoffs, plus scores from the second round  

Following the second round of the boys’ volleyball California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section championships, only the Valencia Vikings remain in the playoffs from the Santa Clarita Valley after a three-set win over the Claremont Wolfpack  

Here are scores from Friday’s second-round games:  

Valencia 3, Claremont 0: The Vikings, who are coming off a sweep in the first round, advance past the second round with another three-set sweep, 25-19, 25-22, 25-17, at home over the Claremont Wolfpack.  

With the win, the Vikings advance to the quarterfinals of the Division 3 playoffs and will be on the road for the first time in the playoffs in the quarterfinals.  

The Vikings are set to match up against the Palos Verdes Sea Kings, who are coming off a sweep over Sage Hill in the second round.  

The contest between the Vikings and Sea Kings is set to begin at 6 p.m. at Palos Verdes High School on Wednesday.  

Windward 3, Saugus 0: The Centurions, who defeated Windward in a tournament earlier in the season, fell to the Wildcats of Los Angeles in the second round of the Division 3 playoffs in straight sets.  

With the loss, the Centurions are eliminated from the playoffs.  

La Sierra Academy 3, Trinity 1: In what has been a historic season for the Trinity boys’ volleyball program, the season came to an end on Friday night for the Knights after a four-set loss to the La Sierra Academy Knights of Riverside.  

With the loss, the Knights are eliminated from the Division 7 playoffs.
