A Stevenson Ranch man was killed Thursday night after being hit by a car in Bakersfield, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Bakersfield-area Office.

The Kern County Coroner’s Office confirmed the man was 54-year-old Sibichan Varghese.

CHP personnel were called to the pedestrian-versus-vehicle crash on Snow Road at around 8:20 p.m. Thursday, after Varghese was hit by an 82-year-old man’s truck.

According to a news release from the office, CHP determined during an investigation the 82-year-old was driving a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado going westbound on Snow Road when Varghese crossed the road outside a crosswalk, directly in front of the driver’s truck.

The driver, who was going about 40 mph at the time, stopped and cooperated with the emergency personnel who responded, the release said.

Varghese was pronounced dead at the scene. Drugs and alcohol aren’t suspected to be a factor in the crash, the release said.
