The William S. Hart Union High School District is scheduled to have a special board meeting on Monday after the regular meeting on Wednesday was canceled due to the Pointe Fire, which prompted evacuation warnings and scorched approximately 60 acres of brush in the nearby area.
Among Monday’s agenda items, the board is set to take a vote on the required public disclosure of the proposed compensation increase for the Hart District Teachers Association, California School Employees Association Chapter 349, and Unrepresented Employees.
According to a letter from the Los Angeles County Office of Education in relation to the matter, key components include a 2% on-schedule salary increase, effective July 1; a one-time, off-schedule payment of 2,700 for HDTA members, $1,450 for CSEA members, and $3,910 for Management members; and an increase in the Health and Welfare benefits cap for the qualified CSEA members from $18,294 to $21,500, effective Oct. 1.
The proposed compensation increase is set to cost $9.94 million in 2026-27 and is expected to be drawn primarily through the district’s general fund. Ongoing costs from the agreement will be covered by the Local Control Funding Formula for base funding and federal, state, and local revenues, according to the agreement.
“With the costs of the agreements incorporated, the district projects meeting the required reserves during the term of the agreements,” read the L.A. County Office of Education letter to district board President Joe Messina. “We urge the district to exercise caution due to the deficit spending trend and reliance on Fund 17 to meet the minimum reserve requirement in future years.”
Citing Government Code 3547.5, school districts must publicly disclose the major provisions of a collective bargaining agreement, including its current and future fiscal costs, before entering into a written agreement with an employee organization.
Trustees Erin Wilson and Bob Jensen will be attending the meeting via teleconference, according to the agenda.
