Valencia girls’ volleyball secures road win over Canyon

Plus, scores from around the Foothill League in girls’ volleyball 

After a four-set win over Ventura on Saturday, the Valencia girls’ volleyball team followed up its performance in Foothill League play on Tuesday with a straight-set sweep, 25-14, 25-23, 25-23, over the Canyon Cowboys.  

With the win, the Vikings (14-11, 5-3) improved to a 5-3 Foothill League record and remained in third in the girls’ volleyball standings.  

The Vikings will look to keep the winning streak alive with a road matchup on Thursday against the Centurions at Saugus High School with first serve set for 5 p.m.  

As for Canyon (12-11, 3-5), the loss dropped the Cowboys to fifth in the Foothill League standings with a 3-5 record but they remain above .500 overall with a 12-11 record.  

The Cowboys will look to bounce back in their next Foothill League contest on Tuesday at Castaic High School in a matchup against the Coyotes with the game scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.  

After Tuesday’s games, here are scores from around the Foothill League: 

West Ranch 3, Castaic 0: Following a straight-set sweep, 25-16, 25-17, 25-15, over the Castaic Coyotes (14-10, 4-4 on Tuesday, the West Ranch Wildcats (11-5, 7-0) extended their Foothill League winning streak to six games.  

With the win, the Wildcats started the second half of Foothill League play with a victory and remain unbeaten.  

The Wildcats will look to continue the winning momentum with a matchup at West Ranch High School on Thursday against the Golden Valley Grizzlies at 5 p.m.  

The loss dropped the Coyotes to .500 in Foothill League play and they will look to bounce back on Thursday at Castaic High School against the visiting Hart Hawks at 5 p.m.  

Saugus 3, Golden Valley 0: Following a loss to Newbury Park in the team’s last non-league contest, the Saugus Centurions (26-8-1, 7-1) bounced back with a road win over Golden Valley (6-20-4, 0-8) on Tuesday.  

With the win, the Centurions improved to 7-1 in Foothill league play and remained second in the girls’ volleyball standings.  

The Centurions will look to build upon their momentum on Thursday at Saugus High School against the visiting Valencia Vikings at 5 p.m.  

As for Golden Valley, the loss dropped the Grizzlies to 0-8 in Foothill League play and they will look to grab their first win on Thursday at West Ranch High School against the Wildcats at 5 p.m.
