Santa Clarita Valley sheriff’s deputies hosted a meet-and-greet at Vallarta Supermarket in Valencia on Tuesday morning, where the community could get free conchas and refreshments and have a chance to get to know the deputies.

Attendees were able to get drinks and a free concha that was freshly baked by Vallarta Supermarket’s own bakery while talking to the deputies who serve the community in a neutral environment.
“A lot of people feel like they don’t have the opportunity to ask deputies questions,” said Deputy Daniel Smith. “A lot of the time, when you know, we’re driving around controlling the community, people are on their way to do their own thing. So this does offer up the opportunity for them to stop by if they have any general questions or just anything on their mind.”

The community members could ask questions about what’s going on in the community, about law enforcement, or even just questions about the deputies as well. This event gives a chance for the community to create more familiarity with the deputies who serve the community and even learn more about the community they wouldn’t know about, said the participants.

“I like to hear what their concerns are and we can address it,” said Lt. Guillermo Martinez when asked what he enjoys about events such as these. “When we come out to these communities, we get a chance to find out what the problems are in that particular community and then if it’s a major issue, we can deal with it.”
