Southern California Edison issued a public safety power shutoff alert in error to residents of the Santa Clarita Valley on Wednesday, a spokesperson for the agency confirmed.
The alert stated that high winds and fire conditions were expected from Wednesday afternoon through Friday afternoon, therefore power could be shut off for residents to decrease fire risk.
Kathleen Dunleavy, a spokeswoman for Southern California Edison, stated on Wednesday afternoon the alert sent out to residents was an error on their behalf and apologized for the confusion.
Although the SCV isn’t expecting fire conditions, trick or treaters and Halloween enthusiasts should expect a wet spooky Saturday for Halloween night, according to Ryan Kittell, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service.
Rain is expected to begin Friday and continue until Sunday with the heaviest showers on Saturday.
There may be some “glimmer of hope” that the rain may have stopped by the Halloween festivities, Kittell said, but people who plan on attending outdoor events should plan on a wet evening.
Slick roads and increase in traffic could play a factor in the wet weather, therefore he advised commuters to plan ahead.
