Plus, scores from around the Foothill League in flag football
Following a road victory over Golden Valley on Tuesday, the West Ranch Wildcats grabbed a much-needed flag football win over the Saugus Centurions, 26-12, on Thursday and improved to 5-3 in Foothill League play.
The Wildcats (6-7, 5-3) kept their Foothill League title chances alive as West Ranch jumped to third in the flag football standings with a 5-3 record and just a few games behind the first-place Castaic Coyotes, who hold the top spot with an 8-1 record.
The win over Saugus (8-8, 4-6) on Thursday also marked the second-consecutive game in which the Wildcats have scored 20 or more points. And in the last two wins, West Ranch’s defense has held its opponents to 12 points.
The Wildcats will look to build upon their momentum on Tuesday in another high-profile matchup against the Hawks at Hart High School with the game set to begin at 6:30 p.m.
As for Saugus, the loss dropped the Centurions to two games below .500 in Foothill League play with a 4-6 record. The Centurions remain in fifth place in the standings and are on the outside looking in for an automatic playoff bid for the flag football playoffs.
The Centurions will look to remain above .500 in overall play in a matchup against the Coyotes on Tuesday at Castaic High School at 3 p.m.

Castaic 13, Valencia 6: Following a narrow home win over the Valencia Vikings (9-9-2, 6-4) on Thursday, the Castaic Coyotes (14-3-1, 8-1) are one game closer to clinching the program’s first-ever Foothill League title.
With an 8-1 record, the Coyotes will still need help to clinch the title outright with a Hart and West Ranch loss on Tuesday. But with a Coyote win on Tuesday, Castaic can clinch at least a share of the title.
The Coyotes will look to do so on Tuesday at Castaic High School in a matchup against the Saugus Centurions at 3 p.m.
As for Valencia, the Vikings remain in fourth in the standings with a 6-4 Foothill League record and will look to keep their playoff hopes alive with a matchup against the Golden Valley Grizzlies on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
Hart 32, Golden Valley 6: Like the Wildcats, the Hart Hawks (10-9, 6-3) kept their Foothill League title chances alive following a road win over Golden Valley (5-14, 0-9) on Thursday.
The Hawks will need to win out and the Castaic Coyotes to drop two games in Foothill League play to at least clinch a share of the title. The Hawks will look to keep up their winning momentum in their next Foothill League game on Tuesday at Hart High School against the West Ranch Wildcats at 6:30 p.m.
As for Golden Valley, the Grizzlies remain winless in Foothill League play with a 0-9 record and will look to grab their first victory on Tuesday at Canyon High School against the Cowboys at 3:30 p.m.
