Throughout the summer, Vincent Hill Restaurant and Saloon has co-sponsored “Art on the Patio” to showcase a variety of local artists. These have included painters, wood workers, knife makers, weavers, sculptors, photographers and potters.
Our next event is Saturday, October 29 from 3-7 p.m. featuring Chris Darga, painter and sculptor; Rich Gallego, plein air painter; Terrell Hasker, woodworker; Melanie Knox, ceramics and drawings; Katherine Tucker, weaver; and Charlene Worthley, artist. These artists, without exception, love to discuss their work, encourage others, teach and mentor. The quality of their work and their enthusiasm is inspiring.
Acton and Agua Dulce have a wealth of talented local artists and the Acton/Agua Dulce Arts Council (AADAC) has with great success been sponsoring diverse programs since 2002 for young people and adults to cultivate and encourage the expression of visual and performing arts in our community.
We see true community spirit in action as many local businesses and individuals sponsor and donate gift certificates and cash awards for the yearly Young People’s Art Show. The AADAC, along with the Acton/Agua Dulce Library also sponsor exhibits by local artists in the Community Room at the Library along with art classes for our youth and adults.
The AADAC also provides a financial sponsorship to cover 6 young musicians to study and perform with West Coast Classical Orchestra.
This month, AADAC and Friends of Acton/Agua Dulce Library present Chair-ity at the Library – One-of-a-kind chairs by local artists. Each chair will be raffled off, so stop by the Library to see the chairs and get details about the drawing to occur on October 22.
Plans for 2017 include a theater production and continuation of some of the above programs with ideas for some new events.
