Two weeks ago, my wife and I along with three of our employees attended the Great American Beer Festival in Denver, Colorado. In our almost twenty years of running a brewery this was the first time that we were able to go the largest beer festival in the world, GABF! We have been told many times again and again that you have to experience GABF just once in your brewing careers.
There is no way to describe the amount of people attending GABF or the vast number of beers from different breweries to try. It was truly mind boggling that over the three day festival 60,000 people attended with 3,500 beers being served by 800 breweries. Denver had an estimated 28.6 million dollar economic effect on the city during the week of the festival – that’s a lot of money spent in the Mile High city! Along with the over 60,000 people attending GABF there were over 500 people in media covering the event for newspapers, websites, magazines and TV stations.
During the day we had some free time to explore Denver. Of course we chose to visit some of the many breweries in Denver which was interesting and fun along with enjoying some of the great food that Denver has to offer. At the awards ceremony, there were 286 medals awarded by judges from 12 countries to 254 brewers. There were 7,227 beers entered in the competition in which all 50 states were represented. It was an amazing few days in Denver and we’re really looking forward to next year! Cheers!
