Members from AAUW (American Association of University Women), family members and sponsors of the Tech Trek Program welcome home the 24 girls from their STEM summer camps.  Tech Trek is a national AAUW science and math camp program designed to develop interest, excitement and self confidence in young women who will enter eighth grade in the fall.  It features hand-on activities in math, science and related fields.  All sleeping, eating, instructional and recreational facilities are located on a university campus where camps are held.  Now in its 18th year, Tech Trek is designed to help girls continue their interests in science, math, engineering and technology (STEM) exploration and learning.  It provides some exposure to the careers available to women in science today.

All girls attend Tech Trek camps on scholarships provided by AAUW California branch members and foundation sponsors working with participating middle schools in their area. Seventh grade science and/or math teachers at these schools recommend camper candidates who must then pass through an extensive qualification process that includes an application, essay and a personal interview.

This past year AAUW SCV sent 24 campers to UC Santa Barbara, UC Irvine, CSU Fresno, and Whittier College.

If you, your company or foundation are interested in sponsoring a girl to one of our summer camps next year, please contact MJ West: [email protected]
