What a beautifully written analogy between a fictitious post-Nazi Germany and our present post-Confederacy America was submitted by Josh Heath in Wednesday’s Opinion section of The Signal. Anyone who reads “Reflections on an American tragedy” should be moved to think about the current debate regarding the Confederate “heritage” and the “noble” men who fought for that cause.
Yes, it is history, but when re-examined in light of Mr. Heath’s brilliant fictional construct of what life is for Jews in a post-Nazi Germany where the Nazi “heritage” is alive, well, and maintaining control over the German nation, the Confederacy and all it stood for is, all of a sudden, neither a noble cause nor one that should be remembered with anything but disgust.
I, for one, am eternally thankful that the Confederate cause lost, and I do not think our great nation should be lionizing the men who led this war against the United States of America.
