A 27-year-old motorcyclist from Pine Mountain was killed Tuesday in a traffic collision on Highway 126 near Val Verde and the Chiquita Canyon Landfill.

Joshua Korczyk was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, according to a news release issued Tuesday by California Highway Patrol Officer Josh Greengard.

The driver of the other vehicle, identified as Alvin Venedeto, 45, of Castaic, suffered minor injuries.

On Tuesday, about 6:18 a.m. the CHP’s Los Angeles Communications Center received a 911 call, reporting a vehicle verse motorcycle collision on westbound SR-126 at Chiquito Canyon Road, Greengard said in the release.

Emergency response crews including the CHP and the Los Angeles County Fire Department were dispatched immediately to the crash.

The responding units determined that the collision involved a motorcyclist and a 2013 Ford Escape SUV.

From preliminary investigations, it appears the motorcycle – a 2016 Yamaha R1 – was traveling westbound on Highway 126 in the fast lane – referred to the #1 lane by CHP.

The other vehicle “was attempting to make a left turn onto eastbound SR-126 from Chiquito Canyon Road,” Greengard said.

“As a result, the motorcycle and SUV collided which caused fatal injuries to the motorcycle rider,” he said in the release.

CHP officers diverted eastbound traffic onto the right shoulder at the collision scene.

Investigators closed the #1 lane of the highway westbound. The lane next to it – the #2 lane – was kept open.

About 8:30 a.m., they opened the #2 lane of the highway eastbound.
