During a late October concert, with the former members of Oingo Boingo, Shawn Robin Dettenmaier, a fourteen year old Santa Clarita resident, was honored by Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and the Los Angeles City Council.

Oingo Boingo, who have helped Shawn with her charity work in the past, stopped the show and brought her on stage to receive a special proclamation and a ‘thank you’ from the Mayor for her work as the architect of the Combat Radio Christmas Event For Social Services And Homeless Children which is held every December at Salt Creek Grille in Valencia.

The Combat Radio Christmas Event for Social Services and Homeless Children is an event Shawn started when she was seven years old when she brought the idea to her parents, Ethan and Lota Dettenmaier.  The event has since provided Christmas for over a thousand children and also collects donations for the food bank and Toys for Tots.

This year the event will be held on December 2, and many of the celebrity regulars from Combat Radio; such as cast members from the Avengers, Star Wars and the X-men are scheduled to attend. The breakfast and toys are reserved for the children from social services but the silent auction is open to the general public.

The proclamation was also for Shawn’s work in adopting a homeless shelter with Hope of the Valley earlier this year and for the charity she started called The Make the World a Better Place Children’s Foundation.
