Poole & Shaffery employment law update set for Feb. 20

Poole & Shaffery, LLP, will host its sixth annual Employment Law Update on Feb. 20 in the grand ballroom of the Hyatt Regency Valencia, 24500 Town Center Dr.

The Employment Law Update is designed to help businesses “avoid the financial catastrophes that can come with being out of compliance with state and federal laws,” according to a news release from the firm. Tickets, priced at $50 if reserved by Feb. 15, are available at www.employmentlawrsvp.com.

Firm partners Brian Koegle and David Poole will present the update. A question-and-answer session will follow the main presentation.

“California has some of the nation’s strictest business regulations, and the laws are changing every year,” Koegle said in the release. “Businesses – particularly the many small businesses in Santa Clarita Valley – simply cannot afford to ignore changes, especially when violations can result in thousands of dollars in fines. This luncheon helps business owners navigate complicated issues.”

The update’s primary topics include:

  • Minimum wage and exempt salary updates
  • Marijuana use in the workplace
  • Equal pay laws, including pre-employment screenings
  • Statewide “ban the box” rules
  • Expansion of CFRA leaves of absence (even for smaller employers, 20+)
  • Preview of new laws for 2018

The luncheon will be hosted by the Valley Industry Association and replace the organization’s regularly scheduled monthly luncheon.
