Get your clubs ready because the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clarita Valley is hosting its first-ever amateur golf tournament at Sand Canyon Country Club on April 27-28.

“Our goal is to establish a new annual championship for the Santa Clarita Valley to crown the best amateur golfer,” said Matt Nelson, CEO of the Boys & Girls Club of SCV.

The tournament is open to golfers of all ages and skill levels, and will challenge them to complete 36 holes of golf over two days with “shotgun” starts.

“We had done traditional charity golf tournaments in the past and we wanted to do something different this year and bring something new to Santa Clarita while bringing in support for our local youth,” Nelson said.

All proceeds from the tournament will go directly toward supporting the Boys & Girls Club’s after-school health and fitness programs for at-risk youth in the community.

“There are two reasons to come out — to prove your skills and win a title or to support kids in the community and positive programs for Santa Clarita’s youth,” Nelson said.

The two-day event will conclude with an awards dinner on Sunday following the completion of the tournament in which more than $2,500 in prizes will be given to the best overall gross player as well as first-, second- and third-place handicapped net players to even the playing field, according to Nelson.

Registration for golfers is $299, and will include two rounds of golf, a golf cart, green fees, snacks, water, tee prizes, continental breakfast as well as lunch both days, and dinner at the Awards Banquet on Sunday.

Spectators are welcome to attend the tournament, but those who would like to attend the awards banquet will need to purchase tickets in advance for $45.

The inaugural amateur golf tournament will be held at Sand Canyon Country Club, located at 27734 Sand Canyon Road in Canyon Country. The first round of golf will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 27, and the second round will begin at 11 a.m. on Sunday, April 28.
