First responders rescued a man who drove his SUV down an embankment off Sand Canyon Road, at Soledad Canyon Road, not far from the Denny’s restaurant, according to fire officials.

L.A. County Fire Department personnel received a call around 4:31 p.m. regarding the single-vehicle crash, according to Supervisor Yvette Llacuna of the Fire Department.

“It went over the embankment about 50 feet and overturned with a person trapped inside,” Llacuna said around 5:10 p.m. Friday. Shortly afterward, he was en route to the hospital, she added. There was no information available on what caused the crash.

Fire officials dispatched a number of personnel to the scene, including “two engines, a truck, a squad, two patrols and a chief,” as well as a helicopter, she added.

The initial information available did not indicate the severity of the injuries for the driver of the SUV, Llacuna said. However, the patient ended up being transported by helicopter to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital.

“He arrived there at 5:21 p.m.,” she added.
