News release
Jerry Danielsen, vice president of Santa Clarita Community College District board of trustees, announced that he will run for re-election in Trustee Area 4 in November 2024.
The board governs College of the Canyons. Area 4 includes Canyon Country and parts of Saugus and Newhall.
“My Santa Clarita roots run deep. I’m a graduate of Hart High, College of the Canyons, and Cal Arts,” Danielsen said in a news release. “I am now an experienced educator and small business owner in our community. I joined the board as a trustee in 2023 and have been part of many amazing projects since that time.”
The release said Danielsen has successfully supported initiatives to expand course offerings and increase resources for all students, approved development of a new baccalaureate degree and new certificate programs that align with current job market demands, oversaw critical improvements in campus infrastructure, including updated classrooms and state-of-art technology, and approved growth of support services crucial to student success.
“I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished for our students and feel that my re-election to the board will ensure continuity and lend experience as we progress into the new term,” Danielsen said in the release. “My vision as we move forward includes the hunt for innovative educational procedures and technologies to keep our programs relevant and effective and the expansion of our already-strong community partnerships by forming additional collaborations with local businesses and organizations. Fostering a campus atmosphere that allows every student, faculty member, and staff member to feel valued and supported, and conducting a robust search to select a new president/superintendent are also at the top of the list.”
The release said Danielsen is endorsed by the COC employee and staff organizations, as well as Assemblywoman Pilar Schiavo, D-Chatsworth, and COC board President Edel Alonso.
