News release
The city of Santa Clarita’s latest art exhibition, “A Conversation Under the Sun,” by Tim Forcum, is on view now through Wednesday, Nov. 12, at the Santa Clarita Public Library Old Town Newhall Library Branch (24500 Main St.).
This exhibition features 11 framed gouache-on-paper pieces that invite viewers to engage with abstraction as both a visual and emotional language, encouraging reflection on the connections between memory, nature and artistic expression, according to a news release from the city.
Gouache-on-paper is a painting made with opaque, water-based paint, similar to watercolor, but with richer pigments for a matte, vibrant finish.
Forcum’s paintings highlight the dialogue between abstract form and lived experience, where vivid color fields, layered gestures and shifting shapes suggest both the physical environment and the inner landscape of memory, the release said. His work asks viewers to notice subtle transitions and discover meaning in the balance between what is seen and what is felt.
“My work is an ongoing investigation into the ability of abstract painting to create a personal pictorial language. With suggestions of landscape or figuration, there is a tension created between spontaneity and calculation, gesture and rendering,” Forcum said in the release.
