A man was arrested on suspicion of multiple charges and active warrants after dumping a stolen vehicle near Commerce Center Drive north of State Route 126 and running on foot on Sunday evening, according to an official with the California Highway Patrol Newhall-area Office.

The charges included possession of a stolen vehicle, DUI drugs, assault on a peace officer and resisting, delaying or obstructing a peace officer. The active arrest warrants included assault likely to produce great bodily injury and attempt to escape, according to an email statement from Officer Carlos Burgos-Lopez, public information officer with the CHP.

Officers received a call around 5:07 p.m. of a gold sedan traveling at over 100 mph on Interstate 5 near SR-126, Burgos-Lopez’s statement said.

Officers located the suspect’s vehicle abandoned and searched the area when they received calls of a Hispanic man running toward The Old Road on Henry Mayo Drive, according to Burgos-Lopez’s statement.

Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel called in about a suspect jumping over the fence at the fire station on Henry Mayo Drive and leaving some belongings within the station parking lot, the statement read.

Officers responded to the area and located the man as he ran in the grass field south of the fire station, according to the statement.

Officers detained the man, who had laceration to his hands, as they investigated the incident when the vehicle was determined to be stolen, and the suspect was arrested, the statement read.

The suspect was combative with officers, firefighters and paramedics and ultimately began spitting on officers, according to the statement.

The suspect was transported to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital for treatment, Burgos-Lopez’s statement said.

He was booked into the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, the statement said.

There is no additional information at the time of this publication, according to Burgos-Lopez’s statement.
