News release

JCI Santa Clarita is scheduled to host its interactive financial literacy program, Get Real: Adulting 101, at Bowman High School on Wednesday, serving approximately 80 students through an immersive budgeting and money management simulation.

Designed to equip students with real-world financial skills, Get Real: Adulting 101 places participants in a hands-on simulation where they assume a career, salary and life scenario. Students must create and manage a monthly budget while navigating common adult expenses such as housing, transportation, groceries, child care and unexpected financial challenges.

The experience provides a practical, engaging way for students to understand the impact of financial decisions before they face them in real life, JCI said in a news release.

Since its launch, Get Real: Adulting 101 has served more than 750 students in the Santa Clarita Valley, helping young people build confidence in managing money, making informed financial choices, and understanding the long-term consequences of their decisions, the release said.

“This program gives students a safe space to make financial decisions, problem-solve, and learn from the experience,” said a prepared statement from the project’s co-chairs, Tiana Bradley and Carl Emerlbauer. “Our goal is to empower students with knowledge and confidence so they feel better prepared for life after high school.”

The release said volunteers are invited to help with the program. Volunteers will assist students at various financial stations, guiding them through expenses and helping them reflect on their financial decisions throughout the exercise, the release said.
