SANTA MONICA — College of the Canyons recently won a second straight outing vs. Santa Monica College, this time beating the host Corsairs by a 6-3 final score to extend its overall win streak to five matches.

Canyons (10-4, 9-3) continue to surge in the March 17 match, extending a win streak dating back to March 5. The Cougars were a combined 8-2 across 10 matches. COC had also defeated Santa Monica (3-10, 2-9) the previous week.

The five-match win streak bests the four-game string of success established in February, which also included a non-conference win over American River College, the defending 3C2A (California Community College Athletic Association) state champions.

COC took points in the No. 1 and No. 2 positions in doubles play to establish an early advantage before earning wins in the first four singles matches.

The No. 1 doubles pairing of Emma Chodur/Baylee Renfro won its 11th straight match, with Lauren Neal/Breana Lemos also winning as the No. 2 duo. Both matches ended in an 8-3 final score.

Chodur remained undefeated in singles competition with a record of 14-0.

Renfro won a second straight singles match and emerged victorious in two of her past three outings.

Lemos snapped a two-game losing streak with her win, bouncing back in a big way after losing to the same SMC opponent in the Cougars’ first match with Santa Monica.

Neal rounded out the Cougars’ singles wins while moving her own singles record to 7-5 for the year.
