For the first time since 2019, the Foothill League boys’ golf teams returned to the Valencia Country Club on Tuesday with the Valencia Vikings ending the day in first place in the standings, posting a total team score of 399.
Valencia freshman Lucas Buendia ended the day in first place in the individual standings with a total score of 73 (+1) and was the medalist following the first round.
For Valencia, Colby Rosenfield finished the day in fifth place in the standings with a score of 78 (+6) and was second on the team with Aiden Chroman rounding out the top three on the team with a score of 81 (+9).
The West Ranch Wildcats also had a strong showing in the first round.
Despite finishing seven points behind the first-place Vikings, the Wildcats ended the day with a total score of 406 with three West Ranch golfers in the top five.
The Wildcats’ Jefferson Bowne ended the day in second place in the individual standings with a total score of 75 (+3) and finished in first place for West Ranch.
Tyler Sonnenberg and Eian Shepard finished third and fourth, respectively, with Sonnenberg ending the day with a score of 76 (+4).
For Saugus, the Centurions as a team placed third in the team standings after the first round with a total score of 416.
The Centurions ended the day with two of their golfers in the top 10 with Deagan Humphrey leading all Saugus golfers.
Humphrey placed sixth in the first round with a score of 79 (+7) and his teammate, Dallas Segal, placed behind him at seventh with a score of 80 (+8).
In fourth place, the Hart Hawks ended the day with a total team score of 439 and are 23 points behind third-place Saugus.
The Hawks’ Clayton Queener finished just outside the top 10 of the standings in 11th place with a final score of 82 (+10).
Hart’s Luke Misfud ended the day in 15th place with a score of 86 (+14) and finished as the second-leading golfer for Hart.
The Castaic Coyotes finished with a score of 470 after the first round with Noah Solomon leading all Castaic golfers with a score of 81 (+9).
Solomon ended the first round in eighth place in the individual standings and was three points off a top five finish.
The Golden Valley Grizzlies ended the day in sixth place with Tyler Suwansatit placing in 12th place with a score of 84 (+12).
The Canyon Cowboys placed seventh with a total score of 489 with leading golfer Aydan Huang leading all Cowboys in 17th place.
Huang ended the day with a total score of 87 (+15).
The Foothill League will return for its second round of play on Tuesday with teams set to play at the Oaks Club in Valencia with the tee time scheduled for noon.
