After Tuesday’s second round of the Foothill League boys’ golf season, the Wildcats’ Tyler Sonnenberg led all golfers as he ended the round with a 65 (-7).
Going into the second round, Sonnenberg began the day in third place in the individual standings after finishing with a score of 76 in the first round.
But with both the first and second round scores combined, Sonnenberg jumped into first place in the standings with a total score of 141.
Despite the low score from Sonnenberg, the Wildcats ended the day with a total team score of 400 and were the third lowest-scoring team in the second round behind Saugus, who ended the second round with a score of 391.
With both scores combined from the first and second rounds, the Wildcats remain in second place in the Foothill league standings and hold a narrow one-stroke lead over the Saugus Centurions, who remained in third place in the standings following Tuesday’s results.
The Centurions, who ended the second round with a total team score of 391, were led by Dallas Segal, who shot 76 (+4).
With Segal’s score combined with the rest of the Centurions’ golfers, Saugus finished as the second lowest-scoring team behind the Valencia Vikings.
The Vikings recorded the lowest score among all the Foothill League teams in scoring with a total score of 373.
Valencia freshman Namo Thoontakhob and junior Aidan Chroman both finished under par with a score of 70 (-2) and Colby Rosenfeld finished behind them on the team with 74 (+2).
The Vikings’ Lucas Buendia, who led the Foothill League individual standings after the first round, fell to second place in the standings after he ended the day at the course with a score of 75 (+3).
The Hart Hawks ended the first round in fourth place with a score of 439 and, after the second round, the team will remain where they are in the standings with a score of 446 in the second round.
The Hawks were led by Cole Cardenas, who ended the day with a score of 81 (+9).
The Castaic Coyotes finished the second round with a total score of 452 with the lowest score being recorded from Raef Jensen, who ended the day with an individual score of 82 (+10).
The Golden Valley Grizzlies began the round in sixth place in the standings with a two-stroke lead over the Canyon Cowboys.
By the end of the second round, the Grizzlies increased their lead to 12 strokes as they ended the day with a team score of 448.
The Grizzlies were led by Tyler Suwansatit, who finished with a score of 85 (+13).
The Canyon Cowboys ended the day with a score of 454 with Roman Jimenez and Vincent Jacob tied for the lowest score on the team at 88 (+16).
The Foothill League will return for its third round of play on Tuesday with teams set to play at the Oaks Club in Valencia with the tee time scheduled for noon.
