News release

Santa Clarita’s Cowboy Festival is riding back into town for its 30th anniversary this weekend at William S. Hart Park.

The festival itself is a free, family-friendly event, scheduled 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Hart Park is located at 24151 Newhall Ave., and free parking will be available at the Cowboy Festival shuttle site at 13th Street and Railroad Avenue.

In addition, several limited-capacity and VIP ticketed experiences are available for purchase.

Cowboy Festival transforms after dark into Dancing into the Dusk on Saturday from 7 to 10 p.m., offering line dancing instruction and “an evening of dancing, games and good vibes,” said a news release from the city. Tickets to this event are required and are on sale at CowboyFestival.org.

Beyond the VIP experiences and on-site events, the city is collaborating with Melody Ranch Motion Picture Studio for the Melody Ranch Film Tours. This is a behind-the-scenes experience at the historic movie ranch with guided walking tours led by local film historians E.J. and Kimi Stephens. The tour is scheduled 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday with a bus departing from the shuttle site. Capacity is limited and tickets are required.

On Friday from 1 to 4 p.m., guests are invited to a family-friendly afternoon of history, film and music at the Fiesta de Rancho Camulos, at Rancho Camulos near Piru. The afternoon spent in the rancho includes a screening of “Ghosts of California” by Katie Ryan, a live western music performance by the Placerita Canyon Singers and a docent-led tour of the historic buildings and grounds. Tickets are required.

Later, Cowboy Family Night is being presented by the Raising the Curtain Foundation at the Newhall Family Theatre, 24607 Walnut St., where an evening of music and storytelling awaits, featuring campfire stories from award-winning cowboy poet Joe Herrington, western tunes performed by Joni Harms and songs by Doug Figgs.
