News release

Members of the Santa Clarita Valley Youth Orchestra recently traveled to Seattle for a memorable and enriching performance experience, culminating in a collaborative concert at Town Hall Seattle, according to a news release from the nonprofit orchestra group.

The concert featured a partnership with musicians from the Seattle Youth Symphony Orchestra and performers from Spectrum Dance Theater. As an added highlight, Seattle native mezzo soprano Elsa Lund joined the ensemble, bringing an exceptional vocal element to the performance, the release said.

In addition to the concert, SCVYO musicians had the opportunity to immerse themselves in Seattle’s arts community. Students rehearsed at the studio of artist Catherine Mayer, gaining inspiration from a creative environment that blended visual and performing arts, the release said.

To conclude the trip, SCVYO members participated in the creation of a commemorative mural celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Santa Clarita Valley Youth Orchestra, leaving a lasting artistic mark to celebrate their shared experience and collaboration.

“This trip provided our students with an extraordinary opportunity to grow as musicians and artists while connecting with peers and professionals in a meaningful way,” SCVYO Executive Director Xaman Nivon said in the release. “The collaboration and cultural exchange made this an unforgettable experience.”

SCVYO is scheduled to present a free encore performance of its spring concert at Wild Beast at California Institute of the Arts on Sunday at 4 p.m.
