Macy’s announced it will close another 100 of its retail stores in the coming year.
This announcement came after the retailer committed to closing 40 of its stores back in January.
But, the fate of the Santa Clarita store is unknown.
In general, July was a sluggish month for retail spending, the government reported Friday.
With sales declining at many brick and mortar stores, Macy’s – along with other major retailers – have to re-think their business models. Even Nordstrom’s got caught out in shift of consumer buying habits – reporting the worst sales this spring since 2009.
For Macy’s, it’s plan to improve the bottom line includes operating fewer stores and putting more focus on the better-performing outlets, the retailer said on Thursday.
Attempts to confirm any news with Westfield Valencia Town Center on Friday were unsuccessful.
Specific locations slated to be shuttered won’t be announced until a later date, once the company makes final decisions, a spokesperson for the retailer confirmed.
Macy’s Inc. operates 728 retail stores under the names of Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s and Bluemercury.
Online business at Macy’s has grown at a double-digit rate in each of the past 15 years, the retailer reported. Last month it also announced it was experimenting with technology to help in-store shoppers.
