Burglary suspects caught doing laundry

An apartment worker, acting on behalf of the landlord, discovered something disturbingly wrong when his key to locked door of a vacant apartment didn’t work.

The worker called the cops.

Deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station responded, gained access to the apartment and arrested two people.

What did they find in the apartment?  A couple doing laundry.

A man self-described as a transient sushi chef and a Canyon Country woman listing her occupation as “packing” were each arrested on suspicion of felony burglary, according to arrest records maintained by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

“An employee at the apartments in the 27300 block of Sumac called to report that someone was inside an apartment which was supposed to be vacant,” Lt. Brenda Cambra of Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station said Friday.

“Deputies found the suspects inside the apartment doing laundry,” she said.

“It appeared that they had changed the locks so that the apartment employee had no access to the apartment,” she said. “They were arrested for burglary.

Arrested were Yadira Lemus and Marco Mendoza, both 27, each with bail set at $50,000.
