Your paper has recently endorsed Bruce Fortine and Michele Jenkins, longtime board members who have served the COC board admirably.
I’d like to suggest that those who are able to vote in Area 2 consider supporting Edel Alonso, who has provided guidance to SCV students for many years.
She has been a counselor at Hart High and Valencia High. At COC she served four years on the COC Academic Senate and was the faculty co-chair of the President’s Advisory Council on Budget, as well as being a teacher and counselor.
There are issues at the college that need to be addressed. One of those is providing disabled students access that is guaranteed to them by the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Edel’s commitment to students and her knowledge of the fiscal responsibility and accountability needed to maintain COC’s fine academic status can provide a fresh perspective to the board.
Edel is respected by students and teachers, and I hope voters will consider voting for her in November.
