Santa Clarita residents are beginning to report clown sightings in the area.
The first clown-sighting call came in to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station during the weekend, according to Sgt. Brian Allen.
“I don’t think anything came of it,” he said. “As far as I know this is the first call.”
The clown sighting was reportedly seen in the 27000 block of Rio Prado Drive in Saugus.
Officials from the Sheriff Station said nothing serious has happened in regards to clowns in Santa Clarita; however, they are worried the national attention will spark copycats.
Sgt. Allen said that if residents are concerned about someone in the area, they should contact the authorities.
“If somebody sees something unusual and sees something threatening then they shouldn’t hesitate to contact us,” he said.
Rumors of clown sightings in the Santa Clarita Valley began online last week when residents claimed to witness clowns roaming the streets in Saugus and Canyon Country.
Some residents are choosing to share reports of sighting on social media through a Facebook page called “SCV Creepy Clown Sightings” that was created last Thursday.
The national trend began in August when South Carolinians reported seeing clowns trying to lure children into the woods.
Clown sightings reached the Lancaster area in early October when individuals wearing clown masks approached pedestrians while carrying kitchen knives. In three separate instances, the group attempted to scare residents, according to a news release.
