The Irish have arrived!  Megan Drake (nee Kirk), a resident of the Santa Clarita Valley for many years and a competitive-turned-professional Irish step dancer, is performing in a new, non-traditional, Irish dance and music show. Rockin’ Road to Dublin will be in Los Angeles for one night only, November 6, at the Luckman Fine Arts Complex at Cal State L.A.

Megan, a graduate of College of the Canyons and California State University Northridge, has performed many times in Santa Clarita, first as a Polynesian dancer, and then as an Irish Step Dancer. Most recently, she performed last year with her co-teachers and students from the Fisher McLeod School of Irish Dance at the “Senses” street festival in downtown Newhall; it was an honor to be with them, and to be able to perform as part of the night that highlighted the great singer, Ken O’Malley.

As a competitive dancer, Megan competed multiple times at the World Championships against a large group of dancers from around the world to achieve her goals. It required many hours of practice every week, a strict adherence to sleep and study, and a respect for a very healthy diet.

As a professional dancer, Megan toured in North America, China, South America, and Europe, for 7 years.

“Dancing has taken me all over the world!! I have gained a love for travel, an appreciation of so many cultures, and an even bigger appreciation for the wonderful country we call home,” says Megan.

Drake “retired” from living out of a suitcase in order to reach her goal of being a Pilates instructor and dance fitness coach, but the opportunity to go back on tour in the USA with Rockin’ Road to Dublin was an opportunity she couldn’t pass up!  Getting to travel with her friends from competition days, newer friends from previous tours, and new friends met on this tour is a great way to promote this new show (RR2D), and better prepare for her future in her “Irishdancefit” business.

In October 2015 she even took time off of her busy schedule to become Mrs. Jeremiah Drake before she was whisked away to tour with yet another dance production.

For those of you who love Irish dance and Irish rock music, this will be an opportunity to see and hear the musicians and dancers in a new energetic show, develop a taste for the future of this art form, and meet and greet friends, old and new. Megan is proud to be a member of this cast and hopes to see everyone at the show!
